Climate Change Impacts on Forest Growth and Mortality

چکیده

In 2016, 197 nations signed the Paris Agreement and committed to limiting global temperature rise well below 2 o C [1], thus making understanding the potential for forests to mitigate climate change more important than ever. It is clear that by implementing region-specific mitigation strategies the forest sector can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. However, while forests do have a strong influence on the environment, the environment also strongly affects forests – so much so that if global warming continues at the current rate, it will likely alter entire forest ecosystems and jeopardize the effectiveness of mitigation strategies. Therefore, to design effective mitigation strategies, the impacts of climate change need to be well understood.
